YES... IT'S TRUE!! The New York r&b/rap group, South Bronx (known for "The Big Throwdown" and "The Bottom Line") is back!! Mike Serrette, the group's lead member says, "Hey... With all of the urban unrest that is brewing these days, particularly because of police brutality caught on camera, we HAD TO lift our voices once again! Through tunes like our new single, "Hands Up Y'all", we hope to help bring humankind a few steps closer to world harmony".
In 1980, "The Big Throwdown" (by South Bronx) made music history, in it's own way. It was one of the very first rap records with lyrics about international political issues... along with a few fun party lyrics. In this "rough demo-turned record", Mike Serrette delivers a powerful rap performance, which mentions social problems such as dependence on foreign oil, as well as a lack of jobs because of so many imported products. These types of topics were almost unheard of in early rap and hip-hop records!! However, the group's co-producer/lyricist/member, Bill Moore, felt compelled to write those words... and Mike's rap delivery brought them to life."The Big Throwdown" was ahead of its time!!
Of the five current members, four of them are original members: Sekou Bunch (bassist), Edison Sainsbury (keyboardist), Kevin Cummings (Guitarist), and Mike Serrette (drummer/lead rap vocalist). The newest member is Gary Tyrone Johnson (singer). All of these performers are seasoned vetrerans of the entertainment industry, having worked with dozens of gold and plaatinum recording artists.
Now, here they are, once again! South Bronx returns with yet another hot message with a cool groove. "Hands Up Y'all" is the latest example of how this group knows how to share relevant messages... while making your body move!

TRIVIA:
"The Big Throwdown" was first released by Rissa-Chrissa Records in 1980. It quickly grabbed the attention of the legendary Brunswick Records, which entered into a pressing & distribution deal with the group's executive producer, in 1981. This is why the tune can be found with the labels of two different companies).
